Intimate Wedding at The Walnut Tree Inn | Fiona & Russell’s Special Day
There’s something truly magical about capturing a wedding where love and familiarity intertwine. During the summer of 2024, I had the honour of photographing the beautiful wedding of Fiona and Russell at The Walnut Tree in Blisworth, Northamptonshire. This day held a special place in my heart because I’ve known Russell since we were just four years old. To be trusted with documenting his and Fiona’s big day was nothing short of a privilege.
Interestingly, I hadn’t photographed a wedding at The Walnut Tree Inn, in years, but in 2024, I found myself there twice! It was wonderful to return to this charming venue to capture a day filled with so much love and joy.
A Relaxed and Intimate Wedding
A few weeks before the big day, I met up with Russell and Fiona to chat about their wedding plans. They envisioned an intimate celebration, surrounded by their closest family and friends. It was clear they didn’t want the stress of a huge event, instead focusing on what truly mattered—becoming husband and wife.
After catching up with them, I couldn’t wait to document their wedding day. Their warmth, love, and laid-back approach promised a day that would be as special as their bond.
The Wedding Day: Love, Laughter, and Unforgettable Moments
Morning Preparations
The morning of their wedding started with a thoughtful gesture from Russell. He invited me to join him and his best man for breakfast—a perfect way to kick off the day. Over breakfast, I got to know Russell’s best man, whose humour and kind spirit were a joy to be around.
After breakfast, I collected my camera gear and made my way to The Walnut Tree. Fiona had requested minimal bridal prep coverage, wanting to enjoy the morning in peace with her bridesmaid. When I arrived, the excitement was contagious. Fiona’s radiant smile and her bridesmaid’s joyful (and occasionally emotional) moments set a heartwarming tone for the day.
The Ceremony
As guests made their way to the ceremony room, Russell and Fiona’s two little boys stole the show with their endless energy and cheeky smiles. Russell’s face lit up with the biggest grin as Fiona walked down the aisle. The ceremony was beautiful from start to finish, filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt emotion.
When they were pronounced husband and wife, the room erupted in cheers. It was a joyous moment to witness—congratulations to the new Mr and Mrs!

After the ceremony, the couple and their guests headed outside for the confetti throw, a moment bursting with energy and colour. Hugs, laughter, and happy tears followed as family and friends showered the newlyweds with love.
We moved seamlessly into family formals and the short portrait session was held during the golden hour, later on in the evening. Fiona and Russell didn’t want to spend too long away from their guests, opting to maximise their time with loved ones. Their photos are a perfect reflection of their connection—natural, relaxed, and full of joy.
The Walnut Tree provided an intimate setting for the wedding breakfast and speeches. The atmosphere was warm and filled with love, making it a pleasure to capture. The couple’s decision to keep their day simple and stress-free truly allowed their love and the bond they share with their guests to shine.
